Sun Clair Co., Ltd. (Head office location: Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, Representative: Masayuki Hosoba), which operates the “Waterside Lodge” in the forest land at the headwaters of the Shimanto River (Matsuno Town, Ehime Prefecture), will be operating the resort from August 20 to 23, 2024. Together with etooto Co., Ltd. (Location: Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, Representative Director: Kentaro Kusunoki), the world-renowned filmmaker Kentaro Kusunoki held his first practical video production workshop in Matsuno Town, Ehime Prefecture, “Forests, Marginal Villages, and Video.” We will hold a training camp. Participants are open to the public, and recruitment began on June 7th.
[Image 1:×1430.jpg] Matsuno Town, Ehime Prefecture, which is the setting for “Forests, Marginal Villages, and Video Training Camp,” has Nametoko Valley (Ashizuri-Uwakai National Park), which is one of the sources of the Shimanto River. Mr. Kusunoki was captivated by the great nature that makes your body happy just by breathing, the unspoilt scenery of Japan that stretches along clear streams, and the lives of the people who live there, which never ceases to fascinate visitors. The Meguro village at the foot of the Nametoko Valley is a marginal village with a rapidly aging population, and by making people aware of the appeal of the area, we can expect an increase in the related population, including immigrants.

On the other hand, in the video industry, the video boom seen on social media these days, where anyone can call themselves a
“professional,” is overflowing with content that does not convey an essential message. As things that threaten to diminish the very value of the film industry are being seen here and there, Mr. Kusunoki has a desire to hold a serious workshop where photographers themselves face their own sensibilities, with the aim of nurturing young
photographers. I did.
[Image 3:×1365.jpg] As a project that can simultaneously solve these two seemingly unrelated issues, we are working with Saint Clair Co., Ltd., which operates the local community “Morinokuni Valley” and the
accommodation facilities “Waterside Lodge” and “Waterside Campus” in the same area. A project has been launched for a type video production workshop “Forests, Marginal Villages, and Video Training Camp.”
Through this workshop, etooto Co., Ltd. and Saint Clair Co., Ltd. will contribute to promoting the appeal of Matsuno Town, Ehime Prefecture, and nurturing young people in the video industry.

[Image 5:×1365.jpg] Kentaro Kusunoki Profile
[Image 6:×1365.jpg] Born in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture in 1980, raised in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture. A miraculous high school graduate. Enter the world of film without any education, connections, or experience. Although he worked for a production company for 10 years, he was unable to become a yes-man and became independent as a filmmaker in 2014.
He has been involved in the production of bridal, corporate, TV commercials, web advertisements, etc., and currently focuses on local government tourism, inbound tourism, and corporate branding. In 2020, when the coronavirus was spreading, we started “THE ROOTS” as an independent production initiative that visualizes primary producers. Producers’ thoughts on the environment and their thoughts on ingredients are distributed irregularly as “food education for adults.” Japanese heritage video expert (commissioned by the Agency for Cultural Affairs). Comment from etooto Co., Ltd. Representative Director Kentaro Kusunoki Recently, there are many cases that can be solved in one operation, and I spend a surprising amount of time alone during the production period, which means I have fewer opportunities to work on something in the same direction as my colleagues.
In this “Forest, Marginal Village, and Video Training Camp,” we spent 3 nights and 4 days together with the participants, and made the new discovery that even though we were looking at the same thing at the same time in the same place, everyone was capturing it from a different perspective. You will have an irreplaceable time to exchange ideas and the process of getting there.
Also, I think you will be excited to look through the viewfinder and see the gap between the scenery of the town you live in and the scenery of everyday life in a marginal village.
We will do our best to make the four days a place where you can reaffirm that making videos is fun, and connecting with people is fun. Comment from Masayuki Hosoba, CEO of Saint Clair Co., Ltd.
Do you know the term “Umwelt”?
The “ummwelt”, proposed by the German biologist Uexküll, is the concept that the world that living things see (recognize) is a completely different and unique world.
Doesn’t this apply to each individual human being as well?
Please try expressing the “Enworld” with your honest sensibilities, set in the great nature of forests and marginal villages.
You may discover a new version of yourself.
