A long-established inn founded by the first Prime Minister, Hirobumi Ito. It is widely known that in 1888, Hirobumi Ito was the first to authorize Fugu cuisine, and in 1895, it was the venue for the conclusion of the Sino-Japanese Peace Treaty (Treaty of Shimonoseki) at the end of the Sino-Japanese War.
In 1958 and 1963, we have had the honor of hosting Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Showa twice, and today, as a guesthouse in Shimonoseki, it is a facility loved by many customers.
Shunpanro main store is located on a hill overlooking the Kanmon Strait, which was the stage of the Genpei War and the Meiji
Restoration. You can enjoy Kanmon’s famous pufferfish cuisine along with a spectacular view of the Kanmon Strait, which has been a landmark throughout history.
Currently, we have opened stores in Tokyo and Osaka, where you can easily enjoy the authentic taste of Shimonoseki.
