Kunimaru Nomura: “Did Misato vaguely think that she would make her debut at the age of 13?”
Misato Watanabe: “That’s right. I’ve loved singing ever since I was little, and I decided that I would definitely become a vocalist. I finally made my debut when I was 18.”
Kunimaru: “In May 1985, I made my debut with the single “I’m Free,” which was a cover of a hit song by Kenny Loggins, but at that time I was listening to a variety of songs, including Western music and what we now call Japanese J-POP. It seems so.”
Watanabe: “That’s right. I loved the radio! Of course, I also loved the popular songs that were played on TV, and I also often listened to Western music that was played on FEN Radio. I loved both Western and Japanese music.”
Kunimaru: “So it’s based on the FEN radio I listened to when I was a girl.” Watanabe: “That’s right. It was always playing when I went out in the car with my family. I didn’t listen to Western music or Japanese music separately. I think all of them became my blood and flesh.”

Watanabe: “(lol). Do you have the impression that he was showing up all the time? (lol)”
Kunimaru: “He said he was doing four radio shows a week.”
Watanabe: “I didn’t think I was that good at talking either.New FM stations were being created all the time, so there were 2 recordings of live broadcasts on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.A total of 5 broadcasts. There was a time when I was doing radio. In between radio shows, I was recording and touring. I was always in the studio, whether it was a recording studio, a radio studio, or a concert hall. Kunimaru: Was Misato-san’s favorite time to spend time on the radio? Watanabe: “I’m getting a lot of postcards instead of emails like I do now.It takes a lot of effort to have someone write a postcard to me, right?”I thought, “You’re sending me so many letters!” I thought I had to read all the letters I received, so even though I was busy running around, it was really fun to read the postcards and select the songs. It was an important time for me. It was a lot of fun.” Kunimaru: “And ‘My Revolution’. How did you feel when you first heard ‘My Revolution’?”
Watanabe: “I’m really excited.” He had written a few songs before “My Revolution,” but (Tetsuya) Komuro seemed to have a great response to “My Revolution.” He came to the studio and said, “We made this!!” and he played the melody on the piano in the studio, and I sang along with it. Then Mr. Komuro said, “I like this!!” Until then, I had received a demo tape and checked the melody, but the song I received was “My Revolution.” ”
*”Kunimaru Shokudo” on June 10th (Monday), in which Misato Watanabe appeared, will be available to listen to for 7 days after the broadcast date.
