……
Kindai Kagaku Co., Ltd. (located in Ebina City, Kanagawa Prefecture, President and CEO: Tatsuhiko Okabe) conducted a survey on the actual usage of beauty salons among men and women in their 20s to 50s. In recent years, many people feel that the menu of options has expanded beyond just haircuts, including hair color, hair quality improvement, and treatments. Since it is difficult to perform basic hair care on your own, some people may choose to go to a hair salon only for hair care. In addition, some people may purchase products exclusively available at beauty salons and carry out their own hair care. So, for those who have actually tried option menus, how effective do they feel, and for those who have purchased exclusive products, what kind of products do they purchase? Therefore, Kindaikagaku Co., Ltd. (https://www.kindaikagaku.com) conducted a survey on the actual usage of beauty salons among men and women in their 20s to 50s. Survey overview: Survey on “Actual usage of beauty salons” [Survey period] May 14, 2024 (Tuesday) to May 15, 2024 (Wednesday) [Survey method] PRIZMA (https:/
/www.prizma-link.com/press) [Number of people surveyed] 1,027 people [Survey target] Monitors who answered that they were men and women in their 20s to 50s who often go to hair salons [Survey source] ] Kindaikagaku Co., Ltd. (https://www.kindaikagaku.com/) [Monitor provider] PRIZMA Research
The most common reason for going to the hair salon for both men and women is to get a haircut.

First, we asked the question, “What is the purpose of going to a beauty salon? (Multiple answers allowed),” and the answers for men and women were as follows.
・Women: “Haircut (93.9%)” “Hair color (49.9%)” “Treatment (34.2%)” ・Men: “Haircut (91.3%)” “Shampoo (33.0%)” “Hair color (19.6%)” It seems that most people, both men and women, go to hair salons for haircuts. Approximately half of the women went to the salon for the purpose of getting their hair colored.
Approximately half of people have tried the option menu, and men and women tend to look for different things
In addition to the regular menu of haircuts and other services, beauty salons have a wide variety of optional menus, but how many people actually need them?

Next, when asked, “Have you ever tried the optional menu at a beauty salon?”, about half of the respondents answered “Yes” (46.8%). When asked, “Please tell us your level of satisfaction with the effects,” the responses were: “Very satisfied (33.5%),” “Satisfied (60.5%),” “Dissatisfied (5.8%),” and “Very dissatisfied (0.2%).” I did. Approximately 90% of people seem to be satisfied with the effects of the option menu. So I asked them what menu items they had tried.

When we asked the question, “What menu items have you actually tried? (Multiple answers allowed),” the answers for men and women were as follows.・Women: “Treatment (78.4%)” “Head Spa (52.8%)” “Hydrogen Treatment (13.6%)” ・Men: “Head Spa (55.8%)” “Treatment (47.2%)” “System Treatment (15.6%)” Women: is the most popular treatment, with about 80% of the respondents responding, and head spa was the most popular among men.
Furthermore, in terms of treatment types, hydrogen treatments ranked high for women, while for men there were differences in system treatments and their types.
Men and women had different results for the menus they had tried, but perhaps the purpose of using the option menus was different.

Therefore, we asked the question, “What do you look for in the option menu at a beauty salon? (Multiple answers allowed),” and the answers for men and women were as follows.・Women: “Damage care (52.0%)” “Sustainability (32.8%)” “Gloss (32.8%)” ・Men: “Scalp care (39.7%)” “Damage care (29.8%)” “Sustainability (28.9%)” ” About half of the women answered “damage care” and about 40% of men answered “scalp care.”
From the answers to the questions mentioned above, many women are looking to improve their hair problems, and the popularity among men may be due to those who want to improve their scalp problems. If you have ever bought salon exclusive products at a beauty salon, what did you actually buy?
So far we have been asking about the option menu at beauty salons, but it is possible to purchase salon exclusive products that are not sold to the general public at beauty salons.
People who are particular about hair and scalp care have a high interest in such products, but how many people have actually purchased them?
When we asked the question, “Have you ever bought salon-exclusive products at a beauty salon?”, the answers for men and women were as follows.・Female: “Yes (44.7%)” “No (55.3%)” ・Male: “Yes (38.7%)” “No (61.3%)” Although the percentage of women is slightly higher than that of men and women, about 40% of the total purchase Seems like an experienced person.

So, when we asked the question, “What did you actually buy? (Multiple answers allowed),” the answers for men and women were as
follows.・Women: “Treatment (57.1%)”, “Shampoo (56.2%)”, “Styling agent (53.2%)” ・Men: “Shampoo (64.8%)”, “Styling agent (44.9%)”, “Treatment (33.7%)” Many people seem to be buying everyday hair care products such as shampoo and styling products.
Among women, treatments were as popular as option menus, while among men, shampoo was the most popular option.
Now, let’s take a look at the salon-exclusive products that we actually purchased that were good to use. ■Which salon exclusive products did you buy that were good?・Kérastase (40s/Female/Tochigi Prefecture) ・Olaplex, Bicarte (40s/Female/Kanagawa Prefecture) ・VAN Ionite Shampoo (50s/Male/Kanagawa Prefecture) ・Rubelle Cosmetics (50s/Male/Osaka Prefecture)
Summary: There is a high need for exclusive products that allow beauty salon-level care at home.
This survey revealed the actual usage of beauty salons by men and women in their 20s to 50s. Approximately 90% of both men and women answered that the main purpose of going to a hair salon is to get a haircut, but when asked about using the optional menu, about half of them answered that they had tried it in the past. The results show that about 90% of them are satisfied with the option menu.
Regarding the option menu that we actually tried, the number one choice for women was treatment, and the number one choice for men was head spa. Regarding what they are looking for in the option menu, the results show that about half of women want “damage care” and about 40% of men want “scalp care.” Many people may want to improve their scalp problems. It seems that the type of care that men and women want to receive at a beauty salon is different. Additionally, approximately 40% of both men and women have purchased salon-exclusive products. It was shown that women have a high demand for treatments as well as option menus, while men are the ones who purchase shampoo the most. From these results, we can see how beauty salons should approach each target group.
Women often have their hair colored at beauty salons, and many of them are worried about damage, so it would be useful to introduce an option menu that focuses on “treatments” and sell salon-exclusive products. On the other hand, many men are more interested in their scalps and many purchase salon-exclusive shampoos, so there is likely to be a high demand for services and products that also provide scalp care. “Hair Care Workshop” delivers hair items that users really want by designing products that match demand.
