Launch of three initiatives that utilize electricity to decarbonize the supply chain
Asahi Kasei Homes Co., Ltd. (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director and President: Kawabata
Fumitoshi) has strengthened its efforts to decarbonize its supply chain. We are working to create a decarbonized society through the use of electrical energy with low CO2 emissions, such as nationwide deployment of renewable energy for electricity used at new
construction sites, demonstration trials of electric construction machinery, and the start of supplying renewable energy electricity to suppliers. We will contribute to the realization.
1. Nationwide expansion of renewable energy for electricity used at new construction sites
An initiative that began on November 15, 2023 (*1) to switch the electricity used at the new construction site of Hebel House and Hebel Maison, which will begin construction in the TEPCO supply area (*2), to substantially renewable energy (*3). From August 15, 2024, the initiative has been expanded to all new construction sites nationwide. Posting signboards at new construction sites regarding initiatives ■Overview of initiatives
* ・Target*: All new construction of Hebel House and Hebel Maison * ・Start date*: Properties whose construction begins on or after August 15, 2024 * ・Electricity used*: Actual renewable energy power menu supplied by “Hebel Electric”
* ・Carbon dioxide emission reduction amount (estimated) *:
Approximately 2,200t- CO2 (*4)
(Equivalent to approximately 13% of the CO2 generated from electricity used in all business activities of the Asahi Kasei Homes Group) *1. Related release: https://www.asahi-kasei.co.jp/j-koho/press/20231108/index/

*2. Parts of Gunma Prefecture, Tochigi Prefecture, Saitama Prefecture, Ibaraki Prefecture, Chiba Prefecture, Tokyo, Kanagawa Prefecture, Yamanashi Prefecture, and Shizuoka Prefecture.
*3. Substantial renewable energy using non-fossil certificates obtained from solar power generation such as FIT
*4. Calculated using the emission factor for each electricity company (for calculating greenhouse gas emissions of specific emitters) – R4 fiscal year results.
2. Start of demonstration trial of electric construction machinery In order to reduce CO2 emissions associated with the use of
construction machinery at construction sites, we have established Nishio Rentall Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture, President and CEO: Nishio
In June 2024, we began a demonstration trial of electrification of backhoes used for exterior and equipment construction work in collaboration with Koushi (Koshi). We will verify workability through trials and promote initiatives such as widespread deployment of electric backhoes to reduce CO2 emissions at construction sites and improve stakeholder engagement.
■Effects of electrification
The electric backhoe (*5) being tested can reduce CO2 emissions by more than 60% during operation compared to the conventional energy source of diesel oil. In addition, electric backhoes have superiority in terms of noise and vibration compared to conventional machines, which benefits local residents and operators.

3. Start supplying renewable energy electricity to suppliers In order to reduce CO2 emissions related to the manufacturing of parts for Hebel House and Hebel Maison, our business “Hebel Electric” has started a service to supply essentially renewable energy electricity to suppliers. Yamazaki Co., Ltd. (Head office: Meguro-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Sano), which handles bolts and nuts, was one of the first companies to support our efforts.
We plan to start supplying electricity to some business offices and other facilities from October 2024.
In the future, we will further expand our services in order to achieve decarbonization of the entire value chain through the electric power business, such as supplying renewable energy electricity to partner construction sites that perform construction work and customers living in Hebel House and Hebel Maison. We will consider this.
[Background of the initiative]
In response to the frequent occurrence of natural disasters on a global scale, countermeasures against the climate crisis have become an urgent issue. We have strengthened and promoted initiatives that contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society, such as announcing our participation in the international initiative RE100 in 2019 (*6) and achieving RE100 in 2023 (*7). In July 2023, we obtained certification for the [1.5℃ target] under the international initiative SBT (*8), and aim to continuously reduce greenhouse gas emissions from our business activities.
The country’s green growth strategy states that “renewable energy will be introduced to the maximum extent possible” and “carbon neutrality is premised on an electrified society.” Our business “Hebel Electric” started its service in 2018, and in 2019, we expanded the scope of supply to all our business areas, and at the same time, we started offering surplus electricity purchase service from our customers who have completed the FIT period (FIT). has started (*9). We will work together with all partners involved in our business to introduce renewable energy to the maximum extent possible through the promotion of ZEH housing, and to popularize electricity derived from renewable energy using surplus electricity such as post-FIT. We will continue to promote initiatives aimed at realizing a carbon society.
