*Interview with Chairman Izumi Mochizuki of the National Local Government Hospital Association*
Mr. Izumi Mochizuki. Graduated from Tohoku University School of Medicine in 1978. After moving to Iwate Prefectural Central Hospital in 1988, he served as chief of pediatric surgery, chief of
gastrointestinal surgery, and vice president, before becoming director of the hospital in 2012. In the same year, he became executive director of the National Council of Local Government Hospitals. 2018 Hachimantai City Hospital Business Manager and Director of Hachimantai City National Health Insurance Nishine Hospital, Iwate Prefecture. In the same year, he became vice chairman of the National Council of Local Government Hospitals. 2020 Hachimantai City Hospital Business Manager and Director of Hachimantai City Hospital, Iwate Prefecture. Chairman of the National Municipal Hospital Council in 2024. In addition to serving as an advisor for Iwate Prefecture’s regional medical care initiatives, he also serves as a member of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare’s “Study Group on New Regional Medical Initiatives, etc.”. Additionally, for eight years from 2016 to 2023, he served as the representative coordinator of the CQI Study Group (*1).

We conducted an interview with Mr. Izumi Mochizuki, who has been appointed as the chairman of , and published the contents as a series of articles on September 11th. He talked about what local hospitals, which are facing difficult business conditions, should be working on.
After going through the crisis of the spread of the new coronavirus infection, the management of local government hospitals is still in a situation where it has not recovered. This is a series of interviews in which we ask questions about what problems local hospitals are currently facing and what measures they can take to get out of that situation.
