the purpose
In recent years, new concepts and technologies for the transportation of people have been introduced, such as MaaS (Mobility as a Service), self-driving cars, bike sharing, and electric scooters, and the concept of the transportation of people and goods is changing. “Flying cars” are a new form of mobility that allows for transportation in the “air”, which is less utilized than “land”, and if it becomes more popular, it will help solve social issues such as alleviating congestion in urban areas and reducing CO2 emissions. As a first step toward developing this future in Japan, we have opened the Tsukuba Flying Car Test Field, a demonstration and infrastructure base for flying cars.
To commemorate the opening, we will hold a demonstration flight of EHang’s flying car “EH216-S”. This demonstration will be carried out to verify flight safety and improve social acceptance as an effort to implement flying cars in society. This demonstration will be the first time* that a flying car will fly in the skies of the Kanto region. (*) According to our research as of March 2024
Future prospects
Technology demonstration:
We will confirm the safe and effective operation of flying cars and contribute to the advancement of technology.
Vertiport (*2) maintenance:
The Tsukuba Heliport will be developed as a vertiport base for flying cars and will play a central role in the Kanto region.
Construction of infrastructure base for flight management, etc.: In anticipation of the future operation of thousands of flying cars in the Tokyo metropolitan area, we will build the foundations of a traffic management system and a maintenance base within 50 km of Tokyo to provide a foundation for flight operations.
Improving social acceptance:
In addition to exhibiting, we will create an environment where demonstration flights can be held, allowing people to get up close and personal with flying cars, and contributing to increasing the social acceptance of the passenger experience in the region.
