What is Tokyo Academy Orchestra?
Formed in 1991, it is popularly known as “TAO” as a chamber orchestra that performs without a conductor. There are approximately 30 members. Organized mainly by members of university orchestras such as the Waseda University Symphony Orchestra (commonly known as Waseoke) and the Keio Wagner Society Orchestra (commonly known as Wagner), it currently has a diverse membership. Similar to the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, which is active around the world as an orchestra without a conductor, the leader changes for each song, and the members create music through repeated rehearsal sessions and exchanges of opinions. The unique organizational management method, in which multiple members called the “core” each take responsibility and build consensus, is attracting attention as a model case in the field of business administration. This orchestra is characterized by the concentration and high tension that only a chamber ensemble can offer. Group homepage https://tao.jpn.org
