【ART COMPLEX Group】 To the stage “Gear” Long Run 8th year from Kyoto, which sets continuous performance records in Japan

ART COMPLEX group Kyoto’s stage “Gear” Long Run 8th year to set up continuous performance records in Japan ………………………………………………………………………………………… The ART COMPLEX Group (located in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City, Representative Director) who works on theater management and performance planning Japan’s first Japanese non-verbal performance “Gear”, which is being performed in Kyoto by Keito Ohara, entered the eighth year of the long run on April 1, 2019. ■ The stage from Kyoto attracts the world Despite having a 100-seat small theater, in December last year the number of spectators reached over 200,000. As a stage work in Japan that leads to the world, we continue to show bustling days with visitors from home and abroad, and continue to transmit the attractiveness of Japanese culture to many foreign tourists visiting Kyoto. “Gear” does not use any lines but expresses the encounter and reproduction of the doll “doll” and the humanoid robot “Roboloid” in a highly narrative with humor. This is a Japanese original stage work full of kelen taste, which has carefully elaborated the latest technology such as projection mapping and powerful performance using the body.
■ “Sustainable” long run system completely different from other In recent years, “Non-verbal (without serif) works” that can be enjoyed across language barriers continues to feature new works in Japan in line with the rise of tourists visiting Japan. While the show is booming, many of them are not established, and the prospect of performing a long run has not been established, and they have to finish in less than half a year. Gear not only uses Broadway as an example, but over the course of many years trial and error to prepare a management system for a sustainable long run system in Japan. Furthermore, I set up a two-year demonstration period and carefully created the work. We are facing quality improvement with our original system even now that started. In preparation for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 20th International Expo held in Osaka, we will work to create works that will be long-loved from around the world, aiming for the next 10 years. ■ Comments from Managing Producer Hiroto Ohara The proverb “Momokuri 8 yr” tells us that the time it takes for trees to achieve fruit requires a fair amount of time and steady effort, with the number of years it takes to produce fruit. Gear is in its eighth year this year. The mobilization of 200,000 people in a small theater with only 100 seats is also a result of the cast, the passion of the staff and the result of daily trial and error, and the result of the support from the customers who supported it. Thank you very much. In the future, we will continue researching and improving constantly, aiming for higher quality works that can be moved beyond age and nationality. Thank you for your continued guidance and encouragement.
